Job Reports > Trench Shoring > Linear Shoring

Dubbo City Council
Dubbo City Council
Dubbo, NSW

Underneath Dubbo CBD is a 175km urban stormwater network that transports huge volumes of run-off from the streets, footpaths and roads to the Macquarie River every year. The network is a mix of reinforced concrete tunnels and the original brick arched structures that date back to 1873. The installation of a modern 800 metre reinforced concrete stormwater pipeline are up to 1.5m in diameter into trenches up to 7m deep and 3m wide.

ThyssenKrupp Steelcom supplied E+S double slide rail system linear shoring which were first installed for the Stage 2 of the project. This involved digging a deep trench and installing about 139m x1350 large concrete stormwater pipes and pits in an average trench of 4.5m deep. This will significantly improve drainage from the Central Business District (CBD) in Brisbane Street to the Macquarie River identified as commercial area at risk of flood levels of up to 90cm during a 1-in-100-year storm. Work began for stage 3 in railway car park with the construction of footprint moving in 20-40m sections towards the Brisbane St intersection. Construction sites were fenced so that pipes – measuring up to 1.5m in diameter – can be laid in 6m deep trenches.

An average 6m deep trench was for the bend in alignment where 45m pipe were installed. For the
intersection crossing, 1350 pipes were installed in the trench of 5.5m deep, while 4.5m deep trench was for another 1350 pipes of 150m.

For the Final stage connecting in to existing pipes with an average trench of 4.5m deep will commence in 2012. The $3.5 million project aims to protect properties in the CBD from flood levels up to 90cm in depth during a 1-in-100-year storm event.

ThyssenKrupp Steelcom offers total piling solutions including hire and sell of steel sheet piles, impact and vibratory piling hammers ranging from excavator mounted to large crane suspended units, as well as, foundation equipment and trench shoring systems.
